New Delhi, July 29
(ANI): 1993 Mumbai blasts death row convict Yakub Memon has reportedly
filed a fresh mercy plea with President Pranab Mukherjee.
This is the second mercy plea to the President filed by Memon.
Leaders from different political parties and members of the legal fraternity had earlier submitted a petition to the President, requesting him to consider the mercy plea against Memon's execution.
A three-judge bench comprising Justices Dipak Misra, Prafulla C. Pant and Amitava Roy will today hear Memon's plea seeking a stay on his execution.
Chief Justice of India H.L. Dattu constituted a larger three-judge bench after a two-judge bench of Justices A.R. Dave and Kurian Joseph yesterday gave a split verdict on Memon's plea. While Justice Dave dismissed his plea without staying the death warrant, Justice Kurian differed and favoured a stay. (ANI)
